I’m based in Iceland, where geothermal has powered most of our mining efforts for years. When I read about HashHenge's solar pivot, I had mixed feelings. On one hand, it’s good to see the conversation diversifying beyond our cold-weather dependency. On the other, the ecological impact isn’t just about energy type it’s about scale. Solar in itself isn’t a cure-all. Mining operations even green ones can destabilize local land use, strain water resources (for cooling), and disrupt native habitats, especially in sunbelt regions. Iceland’s geothermal is incredibly localized, and we’ve had to contend with those same dilemmas. Sustainability isn't just carbon; it's holistic. I hope HashHenge has ecologists, not just engineers, on their team.
